Firefighter Poll – What’s Your Opinion?

A lot of talk is spent on firefighter clothing in our profession. However, most of this talk pertains to our PPE, accessories, tools, yada, yada, etc. Take a moment to think about your duty uniform. Think about all the different concoctions your Department has birthed over the years. Some were uncomfortable I’m certain. Others were goofy looking or simply not functional. I used to be issued these work pants that did not vary in the cut whether it be for a man or woman. You would think the larger the waist size the larger the pants leg would be to squeeze your chubby thighs into. This was not the case with these pants. I don’t know how many of those pants I split. You would catch a fire and they would sag and the next thing you know…. Rip! Now, maybe the ole rump roast and thighs could have used some trimming back then, but you get my drift. Here are the categories:

A.) Steel Toe Duty Boots : What boot has treated you the best over the years? Why?

B.) Pants : Slacks, shorts, BDU style pants, or full length biker shorts complete with fruit basket pouch?

C.) Shirt : Dress Shirt, golf shirt, T shirt, BDU style shirt, tucked in or out for BDU’s or Kenny Chesney tank top ? ( Sorry, inside joke )

Seriously, just looking for a little feedback of preferences with duty uniforms. Also, wouldn’t mind some good stories. I’m sure I’m not the only guy that has split his pants

  1. 1. Danner Acadia Steel Toe Boots and Matterhorn USAR Boots–The Matterhorns did not last very long due to the side stitching busting and they can’t be fixed–pretty ticked off about that. They were comfortable to me though. I love my Danner’s more than anything though and I’ll be sending them off to be resoled and conditioned.

    2. Traditional Straight Leg Slacks–We issue both them and the ones with the cargo pocket. They are made by Horace Small ( I believe). I believe the straight leg pants look better than anytype of BDU or cargo pocket pants.

    3. I like just a T-Shirt for station wear. We have to wear our button up uniform shirt from 0800 to 1700 but it’s not as bad as it seems. A golf/polo shirt would be nice to.

I too, have split my uniform pants. Right in the crotch, but luckily I was wearing my bunker pants when I did it. I finally got some new pants though.
